Twelve candidates to vie for title of Miss Paynesville

This year's Miss Paynesville coronation will take place on Monday, June 19, at 7 p.m. in the PAHS auditorium. Twelve candidates will be vying for the title of Miss Paynesville this year, using the theme "Waves and Shades."

Candidates will be judged on their interview, talent, and poise and appearance. Miss Paynesville and her two princesses will represent the community for the next year as an ambassador.

Giving up their titles are Miss Paynesville Lindsey Pelton; First Princess Kayla Nelson; and Second Princess Tanya Whitcomb.

Minneapolis Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes Katie Nelson, the 2004 Miss Paynesville, is also expected to attend the coronation.

Tawny Bengtson
Tawny Bengtson Tawny Bengtson, 17, is the daughter of Deb and Tony Bengtson.

At PAHS, Bengtson participates in dance team, choir, letterclub, volleyball, softball, and cheerleading.

Bengtson volunteers her time for the community center, a church youth group, a church prayer garden, and a church mission trip.

Her hobbies include going to the lake to swim, tube, and waterski. She also enjoys rollerblading, doing arts and crafts, and hanging out with friends and family.

Bengtson is employed at James Street Coffee, which is her sponsor. Her talent is dancing.

Celia Frieler
Celia Frieler Celia Freiler, 17, is the daughter of Jane and Steve Frieler.

At PAHS, Frieler participates in gymnastics, student council, band, prom committee, and letterclub. She is also a peer tutor.

Frieler volunteers her time for the Human Rights Commission, the Paynesville Area Chamber of Commerce, and youth mission trips.

Her hobbies include dancing, having fun with friends, boating, wakeboarding, rollerblading, babysitting nieces and nephews, and hanging out with family.

Frieler is employed at the American Legion in New London and at Wishin' Well Cafe and Floral, which is her sponsor. Her talent is playing the piano.

Chelsey Kalkbrenner
Chelsey Kalkbrenner Chelsey Kalkbrenner, 17, is the daughter of Lisa and Richard Kalkbrenner.

At PAHS, Kalkbrenner participates in choir, treble pops choir, volleyball, softball, cheerleading, and prom committee. She is also a statistician for boys' basketball and wrestling; was a PAMS peer mediator, and a PAMS peer mentor.

Kalkbrenner volunteers time for Nordland Lutheran Church, the R.O.S.E. Center, women's league volleyball, and a church youth group.

Her hobbies include sports, hunting, fishing, and singing.

Kalkbrenner is employed at Jennie-O Turkey Store. She is sponsored by Yarmon Ford. Her talent is singing.

Kristin Lang
Kristin Lang Kristin Lang, 17, is the daughter of Keith and Paula Lang.

At PAHS, Lang participates in basketball, volleyball, softball, choir, and prom committee.

Lang volunteers her time for middle school speech therapy and church youth group.

Her hobbies include playing and watching sporting events, craft and card making, photography, and spending time with family and friends.

Lang is employed at James Street Coffee Company. She is sponsored by Bank of the West. Her talent is playing the piano.

Shonda Martinson
Shonda Martinson Shonda Martinson, 17, is the daughter of Luke and Laura Martinson. At PAHS, Martinson participated in volleyball, choir, pops choir, softball, and basketball.

She volunteers her time in church choir, church softball, as a Vacation Bible School teacher, and by singing with family and youth league.

Her hobbies include rollerblading, volleyball, riding horse, swimming, babysitting, and being with family and friends.

Martinson is employed at Paynesville SuperValu Deli and at the Paynesville Dairy Queen, which is her sponsor. Her talent is singing.

Emily Mergen
Emily Mergen Emily Mergen, 17, is the daughter of Michelle and Ron Mergen.

At PAHS, Mergen participates in choir, cheerleading for football and wrestling, prom committee, and National Honor Society.

She volunteers her time in church choir, teaching religion, Girl Scouts, and youth group.

Her hobbies include listening to music, hanging out with friends and family, going shopping, cheering on sports teams, and going tubing.

Mergen is employed at Wishin' Well Cafe and Floral. She is sponsored by the Paynesville Area Health Care System. Her talent is presenting an essay with an imovie.

Jennifer Moburg
Jennifer Moburg Jennifer Moburg, 17, is the daughter of Janell and Steve Moburg.

At PAHS, Moburg participates in the mixed choir, treble pops choir, treble choir, and band.

She volunteers her time in the church worship band, by giving piano lessons, through community service, and at the Koronis Manor.

Her hobbies include hanging out with friends, shopping, watching Chicago Cubs baseball, water skiing, tubing, and spending time with family and friends on the lake.

Moburg is employed at H&L Express. She is sponsored by the Jacklitch Chiropractic Clinic. Her talent is singing.

Kacy Nehowig
Kacy Nehowig Kacy Nehowig, 17, is the daughter of Deb and Kyle Nehowig.

At PAHS, she participates in student council, cross country as a captain, gymanstics as a captain, and track as a captain.

She volunteers her time in Community Education programs for track and gymnastics.

Her hobbies include scrapbooking, wakeboarding, running, gymnastics, rollerblading, writing, and hanging out with friends.

She is employed at Tuck's Cafe.

Her sponsor is Edina Realty. Her talent is gymnastics.

LeAnn Nepsund
LeAnn Nepsund LeAnn Nespund, 18, is the daughter of Doris and Wyman Nespund.

At PAHS, she participated in choir, danceline, and prom committe. She also was student council vice president and a peer tutor.

Nepsund volunteers her time for a worship band, the blood drive, the community center, the Marie Sanvick Center, the foodshelf, and the Koronis Manor. She also teaches Sunday school.

Her hobbies include scrapbooking, swimming, rollerblading, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

She is employed by Hilltop Restaurant and sponsored by the Steve Whitcomb Insurance Agency. Her talent is singing.

Amanda Skalicky
Amanda Skalicky Amanda Skalicky, 18, is the daughter of Jerry and Laura Skalicky.

At PAHS, she participated in SADD, student advisory committee, volleyball, danceline, and softball. Skalicky was also the student council president and a peer tutor.

She volunteers her time for Girl Scouts, the St. Louis Catholic Parish, the Marie Sanvick Center, and the blood drive.

Her hobbies include scrapbooking, rollerblading, swimming, dancing, painting, reading, taking pictures of family and friends, and traveling.

Skalicky is employed at the Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds and her sponsor is BugBee Hive Resort. Her talent is dancing.

Brittney Spanier
Brittany Spanier Brittney Spanier, 17, is the daughter of Dale and Sue Spanier.

At PAHS, she participates in volleyball, gymnastics, choir, band, pep band, FFA, and prom committee.

Spanier volunteers her time for FFA, 4-H, gymnastics camp, and youth church choir. She also parks cars for church, teaches religion, and serves for mass.

Her hobbies include 4-H, horses, Western Heritage, dance, meeting new people, and hanging out with friends and family.

Spanier is employed at Flanders River Ranch and at Spanier Dairy Farm. Her sponsor is Tuxedo Connection. Her talent is public speaking.

Lindsey Wyffels
Lindsey Wyffels Lindsey Wyffels, 17, is the daughter of Ellen and Victor Wyffels.

At PAHS, she participated in SADD, cross country, danceline, choir, treble pops choir, and theater. Wyffels was also a peer helper and a teacher's aide.

She volunteers her time for Southwest Minnesota Synod Lutheran Youth Organization, Green Lake Bible Camp, the Marie Sanvick Center, Relay for Life, Tram Across Minnesota, and her church. She is also a Sunday school teacher, and a member of a church youth worship band.

Her hobbies include spending time with friends and family, singing, listening to music, watching movies, walking, running, and reading.

She is employed by the Koronis Manor and the Dairy Queen. Her sponsor is American Family Insurance. Her talent is singing.
