Eight girls vying for Miss Paynesville title

Eight young women will vie for the honor to be called Miss Paynesville for the coming year. The pageant will be held on Monday, June 19, at 7 p.m., in the Paynesville Area Elementary School gym.

Competing for the title are: Tammy Christensen, Trista Dukowitz, Kari Frank, Ginni Lahr, Katrina Orbeck, Rebecca Werlinger, Heidi Wilder, and Jana Zumwalde.

On hand to crown their successors will be the 1999 Miss Paynesville, Allison Thompson, and her princesses, Amanda Granzow and Melissa Reiter.

"Millennium Dream" is the theme of this year's pageant.

Emcee will be Dr. Bob Gardner. Escorts for the candidates are Josh Bork and Matt Brauchler.

Christenson
Tammy Christensen, 17, is the daughter of Kenneth and Pamela Christensen. She will be a senior next fall at the Paynesville Area High School. She is active in peer helpers, peer tutors, and Business Practices of America (BPA).

Christensen has also been involved in Girl Scouts and her church youth group missions. Her hobbies are reading, riding bike, rollerblading, and crafts. She is employed by the Dairy Queen and is sponsored by the Paynesville Office of the Melrose Credit Union.

She will be performing a vocal solo as her talent number.


Dukowitz
Trista Dukowitz, 17, is the daughter of Marvin and Alice McColley. She will also be a senior next fall. Dukowitz has been active in choir and band, volunteers at the elementary school, accompanies the seventh and eighth grade choir, and takes part in drama.

Dukowitz has also been involved in the community by playing piano and singing for various events. Her hobbies include playing piano, singing, reading, rollerblading, and spending time with family and friends.

Dukowitz teaches piano in her home. Her sponsor is Paynesville Cenex.

She will be performing a vocal solo as her talent number.


Frank
A recent PAHS graduate, Kari Frank, 18,is the daughter of Don and Vicky Frank. She was active in peer tutoring, DECA, BPA, and cheerleading while in high school. Frank is also active in her church as a member of the youth advisory team. She has volunteered at the Good Samaritan Care Center and helped with girls cheerleading camps. Her hobbies are water sports, playing football, hunting,fishing, and spending time with her family and friends.

Frank is employed by Tuck's Cafe and Bork Lumber and Steel. She is sponsored by Tuck's Cafe.

She will be performing a skit for her talent number.


Lahr
Ginni Lahr, 17, is the daughter of Richard Lahr and Luan Quaal. A senior next fall, Lahr is active in peer helpers, PALS, student council, band, and basketball. She also serves as a D.A.R.E. role model. Lahr has been active in Stained Glass, and enjoys singing.

Her hobbies are spending time with friends, reading, shopping, listening to music, playing sports, and doing outdoor activities. Lahr is sponsored by her employer, Corner Drug.

Lahr will be performing a vocal solo for her talent number.

  Orbeck
Katrina Orbeck, 17, is the daughter of Ralph and Dawn Orbeck. A senior next fall, Orbeck has been active in volleyball, basketball, track, Letter-winner's Club, and mixed choir.

She has also been active in her church and a volunteer to care for neighbor's pets. Her hobbies are singing, dancing, and rollerblading. Orbeck is sponsored by her employer, the Dairy Queen.

She will be performing a vocal solo for her talent number.


Werlinger
A recent PAHS graduate, Rebecca Werlinger, 18, is the daughter of Tony Werlinger and Barb Werlinger. She was active in volleyball, speech, Letterwinner's Club, golf, band, Bark staff, and peer tutoring while in high school last year.

She was the Girls Stater and has been involved in the Girl Scout program. Her hobbies are playing piano, traveling, and spending time with friends. She is sponsored by her employer, H&L Express.

She will be performing a piano solo as her talent number.


Wilder Wilder has also been active in her church as a member of the youth ministry team and serves on the administrative board. She plays the piano and participated in the Kentucky mission trip.

In her spare time she enjoys playing piano, helping on the farm, and spending time with friends. Wilder is employed by the Koronis Manor Nursing Home. She is sponsored by Community First National Bank.

She will be performing a vocal solo for her talent number.


Zumwalde
Jana Zumwalde, 17, is the daughter of Jerry and Jan Zumwalde. A senior next fall, she is active in volleyball, track, band, choir, German Club, Letterwinner's Club and peer tutoring.

Zumwalde has been active in her church and has helped with functions at Farmers and Merchants State Bank. Her hobbies are roller blading, listening to music, reading, walking, water sports, shopping, playing saxophone, and singing. Zumwalde is employed by Punkin Patch Daycare. She is sponsored by Farmers and Merchants State Bank.

She will be performing a vocal solo for her talent number.
