Eden Lake couple turn themselves in to authorities

By Michael Jacobson

The couple from Eden Lake Township wanted in connection with a kidnapping and assault have turned themselves into authorities, the Stearns County Sheriff's Department reported.

On Sunday, June 2, at 1 p.m., the Stearns County Sheriff's Office received a telephone call from a relative of Mary Still indicating that she and John Novicky were ready to turn themselves in. Novicky, 52, and Still, 20, were reportedly still out of state at the time of the call but were returning to Minnesota.

At approximately 3 a.m. on Monday, June 3, Novicky and Still were arrested by the Stearns County Sheriff's Department at a residence in Brooklyn Park without incident. They are currently being held in the Stearns County Jail on charges of kidnapping, second-degree assault, and terroristic threats, pending their first court appearance.

Novickly and Still reside on Deep Lake Road in Eden Lake Township, between Eden Valley, Paynesville, and Richmond.

They were wanted for an incident wherein Novicky and Still allegedly lured a real estate agent to their home under false pretenses and then attempted to kidnap her at gunpoint. The female real estate agent was able to escape and to flee the scene. She was able to notify a nearby neighbor, who called the sheriff's department.

According to the sheriff's department, Novicky has previous convictions for kidnapping, making terroristic threats, escaping custody, and for theft and forgery.
