Paynesville School Board members questioned the need for a grant to develop music curriculum at its meeting May 28.

Board member Pat Flanders felt music curriculum development was part of the teacherĘs contract, not something to use a grant on. Music teacher Clarice Stumo explained the basic music curriculum has been developed. The grant was to enhance the program, provide little extras to challenge the students.

The board also approved expanding the part-time foreign language (German) position of Phoebe Myron to full-time next year. High School Principal John Janotta informed the board there are 11 sections of German for the 1996-97 school year.

Several board members questioned the need for a second German teacher and asked why Spanish was not explored. Board member Dean Hanson asked how come it always seems too late to offer a second foreign language. The board advised Janotta to explore the possibilities.
