Township to start road repairs

By Michael Jacobson

The Paynesville Township Board of Supervisors took the following actions at their meeting Monday, May 23.

*The board approved the low bid from Bauerly Brothers of $112,813 for the township's overlay project. Township roads slated for overlays include: 293rd Avenue, 155th Street, Baywater Road, and King Bee Drive. New bituminous surfaces are planned for the Country Acres Addition and the Lordon Addition.

*The board set a public hearing on amendments to its dog ordinance for Monday, June 13, at 8:45 p.m. The proposed change in the ordinance would allow the city of Paynesville to keep the $50 fine for dogs running at large and to collect the boarding fees incurred for the township.

*The board set a rezoning hearing for Virgil Kulzer for Monday, June 13, at 8:30 p.m. He wants to rezone land in Section 19, which is now A-40, to R-5.

*The board approved allowing Jim Erickson, who lives on Old Lake Road, to abandon his current driveway, which is very steep. Erickson will be allowed to install a 12-foot by 75-foot asphalt parking area in the township right-of-way. Erickson is required to use township specs in the installation, and the parking area will be open to public use.

*The board approved allowing the annexation of 200 acres of land directly north of the city, along the Crow River. The land, recently purchased by Ferche Development, LLC, out of Rice, Minn., was recently purchased from township residents Eric Setterberg and Gerald Kennedy. The board agreed to begin orderly annexation with the project divided into phases. Ferche plans to connect to city sewer and water services for future development.

*The board was informed that the forest tent caterpillar infestation in the township is larger than normal this year. Spraying will be done as soon as the worms reach the proper size and the weather is cooperative.
