Hazelwood's new duties include performing water tests (both clean water and drinking water) for hardness, minerals, and bacteria at the new laboratory at Voss. Water tests for pesticides, lead, and other types of contamination will be sent to another laboratory.

Rick Hazelwood works in the new water testing laboratory at Voss Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning in Paynesville.

If any contamination is found, Hazelwood and the staff at Voss can make recommendations for treatment.

Though the new laboratory at Voss is not yet certified, Hazelwood hopes to be certified by August.

Hazelwood, a native of Illinois with a degree in chemistry from Illinois State University, worked in the nuclear power industry in Arizona for 15 years before moving to Paynesville in 2000. Then, he developed a water testing laboratory for farm testing in Sauk Centre.

Hazelwood lives on Lake Koronis with his wife Lori and his two step-daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing and working with the Koronis Lake Association.
