Hospital budget exceeds expectations

By Michael Jacobson

The Paynesville Area Hospital District Board of Directors took the following actions at their meeting on Wednesday, May 24.

*The board heard that the district operations - using the commercial name of the Paynesville Area Health Care System - recorded a profit of $155,000 for April 2006. This brings year-to-date profits to $750,000, slightly above the budgeted amounts ($643,000) through seven months of its fiscal year.

*The board was informed that Dr. Juan Lewis, currently practicing in North Dakota, has signed a contract to practice with PAHCS. He could start as early as July.

*The board reviewed initial budget parameters for its 2007 fiscal year, which starts in October. PAHCS is looking at a four percent profit, spending $1.2 million on capital expenditures, and putting another $1 million into its reserves.

*The board approved the following medical staff appointments: David Hanson, M.D. (rheumatology) to the consulting staff; Susan Leonard, M.D. (rheumatology) to the consulting staff; and Ann Day (physician assistant to a neurosurgeon) to the ancillary staff.
