Memorial Day services planned in Paynesville and Lake Henry

Annual Memorial Day services are planned by the Paynesville American Legion and the Othmar Braun American Legion in Lake Henry for Monday, May 30.

In Paynesville, services to remember the men and women who have served and died for their country will start with a mass at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery on Lake Avenue at 8 a.m. A service in the school auditorium will start at 9:30 a.m. with Major Steve Thielen, the son of Lloyd and Tess Thielen of Paynesville, as the guest speaker.

Following the service, a flag ceremony will be held in front of the high school and a ceremony will be held at the Paynesville Cemetery, a mile west of town on Cemetery Road. A dinner will be served at the American Legion from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Memorial Day.

The Press will take a picture of all World War II veterans from the Paynesville post and area at 12 noon at the American Legion to mark 60 years since the end of that war.

The Othmar Braun American Legion will have a mass at 10:30 a.m. at their post three miles northeast of Lake Henry on Co. Rd. 32. Rich Philabaum of Roscoe, past Sixth District commander, will be the main speaker. A memorial service will be held on the grounds following the mass, and a roast beef and ham dinner will be served in the post hall after that.
