Meeting on Highway 23 to be held

By Michael Jacobson

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will hold a public scoping meeting on the Highway 23 improvement study on Wednesday, June 4, in the auditorium at the high school. The meeting will start at 7 p.m.

The purpose of the scoping meeting is to share information about the study and to receive input from the public. This meeting is required by the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board as part of an Environmental Impact Statement.

MnDOT is studying the future route of Highway 23 through or around Paynesville and has identified five possible routes to study: keeping the existing alignment with no improvements, improving the existing route through town, and three bypass options (east, west, and far west).

Public comments from this meeting will be incorporated into the scoping decision document. Comments may also be submitted in writing to MnDOT during a 30-day comment period that ends on Tuesday, June 27.
