A two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon, claimed the life of an Eden Valley man. The accident was reported to the Minnesota Highway Ptarol at 2:43 p.m. May 8 about seven miles east of Paynesville on Highway 55.

Ardell Virden Hendrickson, 69, Evansville, was westbound driving a 1996 Freightliner. Anthony Schlangen, 54, Eden Valley, was eastbound and driving a 1990 Ford pickup.

According to the State Highway Patrol, Schlangen crossed over the center line in front of the semi truck. The impact spun the Schlangen vehicle around and sent the semi onto its side and into the ditch, snapping off a power pole. The electricity was off in sections of both Eden Valley and Paynesville.

Schlangen was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Hendrickson was pinned inside the semi cab. It took rescue workers a while to free him. He was transported to the Paynesville Hospital where he was held overnight for observation.
