Hawick man's death ruled accidental

The death of a Hawick man, due to injuries suffered during a grass fire, has been determined to be accidental.

Elroy Lovander, 86, of Hawick, was found dead on Monday, May 2, after the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department responded to a grass fire on his property near Lake Calhoun in Irving Township.

On Friday, May 6, the sheriff's office reported that the provisional report of an autopsy by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner determined that Lovander's death was caused by severe thermal injuries due to a brush fire and that the manner of the death was accidental.

Lovander farmed by Lake Calhoun in Irving Township for 35 years, from 1942 to 1976. He also served as treasurer for Irving Township for 23 years and as a Kandiyohi County Commissoner for 17 years.
