Band students earn more solo, ensemble honors

PAHS band students earned more honors in a solo/ensemble contest on Friday, April 13, at Sauk Centre.

Most PAHS band students competed in a solo/ensemble contest at Eden Valley-Watkins High School in March, but several students were unable to attend this contest due to the German trip.

Students from that trip, as well as students who played in an ensemble with them, competed in a different section for the Minnesota State High School League solo/ensemble contest in April at Sauk Centre.

Other schools participating at this site were Sauk Centre, LPGE, Melrose, Minnewaska, St. John's Prep, and Swanville.

Two PAHS students earned state superior ratings, the highest available, for their solos and two PAHS ensembles earned state superior ratings. Four PAHS soloists earned state excellent ratings, the second highest available. These students are listed below.

State Superior Solos
Sophomore Kirsten Miller (snare drum); and sophomore Jeremy Mohr (euphonium).

State Superior Ensembles
Senior Amber Chevalier, junior Courtney Colbert, junior Emily Mehr, junior Megan Reeck, and junior Krista Wendroth (clarinet ensemble); senior Lacey Bengtson, ninth grader Kelli Gerding, ninth grader Chelsey Hansen, senior Joan Keller, ninth grader Natalie Leadem, sophomore Kristi Louis, senior Sam Moser, Miller, sophomore Alex Naujokas, and ninth grader Christine Spanier (percussion ensemble).

State Excellent Solos
Junior Caitlin Lien (oboe); sophomore Rachel Schmidt (horn); senior Troy Gerding (alto saxophone); and senior Jason Wendroth (alto saxophone).
