Peterson seeks another term in Congress

Collin Peterson (D-Detroit Lakes) has announced that he will seek another term representing Minnesota's Seventh Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Seventh Congressional District includes Kandiyohi and Meeker counties as well as the western half of Stearns County (part of Zion Township and Lake Henry, St. Martin, and Spring Hill).

Peterson has served in the House of Representatives since 1990. He is seeking his eighth term in Congress in the November election.

"I am proud of my record of service to the people of the Seventh District, and I look forward to an opportunity to continue this work in the 109th Congress," said Peterson. "I am honored that the people of the Seventh District have trusted me to work in Congress on their behalf, and I am going to go out and ask people for their continued support."

"We are facing some difficult times ahead," added Peterson, "and Congress will be making some very important decisions that will affect the future of this district and the country. I am not one who walks away from a job when the work isn't finished."

Peterson is currently the ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Agriculture. He also serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (while on leave from the House Committee on Veterans Affairs).

Prior to his election to Congress, Peterson served in the Minnesota Senate for ten years. Professionally, he worked as a Certified Public Accountant from 1968 to 1990.
