Sen. Dayton to give award to local school

By Michael Jacobson

Sen. Mark Dayton (D-Minnesota) will present the Paynesville Area Public Schools with his "Excellence in Education" Award on Thursday, April 20, in the school auditorium.

The local school district is being recognized, in part, for being the only outstate high school to earn five stars in both reading and mathematics in 2005. Morris Elementary School and Renville County West will also receive awards that day.

Sen. Dayton has given 46 "Excellence in Education" Awards this year to schools in the state. The agenda at PAHS calls for coffee and rolls at 8:30 a.m. in the lobby between the auditorium and the fitness center; for a question-and-answer session with Sen. Dayton with students, staff, board members, and the public from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.; and for the award ceremony at 9:15 a.m.
