County board meetings broadcast live on the web

By Michael Jacobson

Beginning this week, the meetings of the Stearns County Board of Commissioners can be seen live on the Internet.

The commissioners voted to broadcast their meetings live on the county's website - along with making available the archived webcast from previous meetings - on Tuesday, April 2.

"For citizens who can't make it into downtown St. Cloud every Tuesday for the meetings or for those who don't have access to our broadcasts on cable TV, webcasting provides them with the opportunity to see their county commissioners in action," said George McClure, Information Services Director. "Stearns County is committed to open government, and webcasting will encourage and enable greater citizen participation in the government process."

For archived webcasts, citizens will have the option to watch an entire meeting or to select specific items from that board agenda to view.

The first live webcast was on Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. This meeting happens to be one of the board's quarterly evening meetings. Normally the board meets at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.

To view the meetings online, go to Stearns County's website at www.co. stearns.mn.us/meetings and follow the webcasting link.

Stearns County is the second county in the state to broadcast their county board meetings on the Internet.
