By Bonnie Jo Hanson

Paynesville Farmer's Union Co-op Oil Company recently purchased the Hess Oil Company of Lake Henry from Floyd Hess, who joined Farmer's Union.

Paul Evans and Floyd Hess According to Paul Evans, general manager of the co-operative, Hess will continue to service his customers in the Lake Henry, Spring Hill, and Belgrade areas. The addition of Hess Oil means a 35 percent increase in business for Paynesville Farmer's Union Co-op Oil Company. "We're happy to have him on board," said Evans.

Floyd Hess, right, has joined the Paynesville Farmer's Union Co-op Oil Company, managed by Paul Evans, left.

For 33 years, Hess delivered fuel oil to his neighbors in Lake Henry and the surrounding areas. He sold the business because new regulations would have made it difficult to bring his fuel oil tanks into compliance with state laws.

Hess chose to continue to work because - after spending 33 years on the job -Êhe said he couldn't see himself spending his days sitting in his kitchen staring out the window. He enjoys his work and especially likes visiting with his customers.
