Senior honored by Lions Club

By Michael Jacobson

Senior Shawn Reinke was selected for the Lions Service Award in February. Each year, the Paynesville Lions Club recognizes seniors at Paynesville Area High School for their volunteer work, both at school and in the community.

reinke Reinke, the son of Craig and Michelle Reinke, said he was surprised to be selected. "I never expected to be recognized for some of the things I do," he said.

Senior Shawn Reinke was honored with the Lions Service Award for February.

Reinke said that volunteering is important to him "because it gives me a means to fill my free time while helping others with what they need." He also thanked the Lions Club for the award and for those at school who nominated him for it.

At PAHS, Reinke is a peer tutor, a library aide, and a technology helper. He participates in drama productions and the one-act play, he sings in the choir and the pops choir, and he belongs to the letter club.

He runs the lights and sound system for drama productions, school programs, and other events in the auditorium. He also has created videos for Veteran's Day and other school functions.

His favorite memory from volunteering was a near mishap while setting up the set for the one-act play.

At Paynesville Lutheran Church, Reinke helps with the computers, helps with the projection system, and reads lessons at worship services. He also is a member of the synod youth board.

Next year, Reinke plans to attend college, possibly St. Cloud State.

Reinke is the fifth PAHS senior honored with the Lions Service Award this year. Seniors Kelly Herzberg and Laura Weidner were selected in October, and seniors Maggie Frieler and Kayla Nelson were selected for November. The last two seniors this year will be honored in March.
