Sophomore earns trip to the United Nations

Adam Ingalsbe Adam Ingalsbe, a sophomore at Paynesville Area High School, participated in the state speech and essay contest sponsored by the Order of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs Lodges in Excelsior, Minn., on Sunday, March 3.

Ingalsbe was awarded with the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth after presenting his speech on the United Nations' role in Afghanistan and being interviewed by six judges.

The selection committee looks for evidence of leadership, character, concern for community welfare, and interest in world affairs.

The UN Pilgrimage brings together high school students from around the world to study and learn about the United Nations. The 11-day trip next summer includes six days in New York City, as well as visits to Niagara Falls, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. Participants experience behind-the-scenes briefings at the UN, as well as attend a Broadway play and tour several landmarks in New York City.

All expenses are paid by the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs. Ingalsbe was sponsored in the state contest by the local Odd Fellows and Rebekahs.
