Speech team takes second at EV-W meet

The PAHS varsity speech team took second place, out of nine small teams, at a meet hosted by Eden Valley-Watkins on Saturday.

Sauk Rapids-Rice took first place among small teams, Paynesville was second, and New London-Spicer was third. Eden Valley-Watkins won the large-team competition, followed by Rockford and Annandale.

Paynesville had three runners-up and 11 students place in the top eight in their event. Junior Courtney Colbert was second in drama, senior captain Troy Gerding was second in humorous speech, and senior captain Amanda Kern was second in extemporaneous reading.

Sophomore Hailey Bundy was third in discussion. Junior Ashley Frank was fifth in original oratory, and junior Lauren Vaske was fifth in great speeches.

Also placing for Paynesville were senior Lisa Lenzmeier (sixth in original oratory), eighth grader Ralph Daby (seventh in storytelling), ninth grader Natasha Fangmeier (seventh in prose), sophomore Erica Geurts (eighth in prose), and sophomore Peder Thompson (eighth in drama). Ninth grader Meghan Doll also scored team points for Paynesville.

On Saturday, March 19, the PAHS speech team will compete at a meet at New London.
