Speech team takes third at two meets

The PAHS speech team took third place, among small teams, at meets at SCSU on Saturday, Feb. 26, and at Sauk Centre on Saturday, March 5.

speech At SCSU, Dassel-Cokato was first among small teams, BBE was second, and Paynesville was third. Senior captain Amanda Kern took first place in extemporaneous reading to lead Paynesville.

Junior Lauren Vaske took fourth place in great speeches on Saturday, Feb. 26, at a speech meet at St. Cloud State University.

Junior Lauren Vaske, sophomore Hailey Bundy, and junior Emily Mehr also made the finals at SCSU with Vaske taking fourth in great speeches, Bundy tying for seventh in discussion, and Mehr taking eighth in humorous speech.

Also earning team points for Paynesville at SCSU were ninth grader Natasha Fangmeier (extemporaneous reading), junior Ashley Frank (original oratory), senior captain Troy Gerding (humorous speech), sophomore Erica Geurts (prose), and senior Lisa Lenzmeier (original oratory).

At Sauk Centre on Saturday, Paynesville took third place among 22 small teams. Buffalo Lake-Hector was first among small teams with 107 points, Sartell was second with 106 points, and Paynesville was third with 105 points.

Kern and Lien made the finals at Sauk Centre and earned medals. Bundy, Fangmeier, and Vaske made the finals and earned ribbons.

Eighth grader Ralph Daby (storytelling) earned honorable mention.

Ninth grader Katrina Daby (prose), Geurts, Lenzmeier, and sophomore Peder Thompson (drama) also earned team points for Paynesville at Sauk Centre.
