Speech team hosts meet at PAHS

Over 300 students from 18 schools participated in a high school speech meet at Paynesville Area High School on Saturday.

Junior Sami Tierney took first place in creative expression, junior Melissa Andrie was first in discussion, and ninth grader Caitlin Lien took first in informative speaking for Paynesville.

Second place winners were junior Callie Frieler in storytelling and ninth grader Amanda Kern in extemporaneous reading. Ninth graders Emily Mehr and Lisa Lenzmeier took third place in creative expression and discussion respectively.

Ninth grader Courtney Colbert took sixth in poetry and junior Peter Schreifels took sixth in prose. Juniors Maureen Flanders and Jenn Terres earned honorable mention in prose.

Annandale won the small-school trophy for first place, with Eden Valley-Watkins second, and Litchfield third. Sauk Centre won the large-school trophy with Rockford second and New London-Spicer third. Small-school and large-school designations are computed based on the number of entries in the speech meet and not based on the size of the school.
