Airport zoning board is formed

The Paynesville Regional Airport Zoning Board became a reality recently when the Kandiyohi County and Stearns County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution officially forming the board.

The Paynesville Airport Commission had requested membership on the board from Roseville and Paynesville townships, the city of Paynesville, and the Stearns and Kandiyohi county commissioners.

The board was formed almost a year ago, but they were awaiting word from Stearns and Kandiyohi counties to name their representatives.

Members serving on the Joint Airport Zoning Board are: Pat and Dallas Fenske, Roseville Township; Joe Speldrich and Steve Brown, Paynesville Township; Audrey Olmscheid, Steve Whitcomb, and Phil Bailey (chairman), city of Paynesville; Don Adams and Jack Wimmer, Stearns County Environmental Services; and Harlow Olson, Irving Township Supervisor from Kandiyohi County.

"It will be the board's task to use information and to follow state guidelines to develop a joint zoning ordinance," Whitcomb said. "It will also be the board's job to oversee and enforce zoning laws for the areas surrounding the airport and for the protection of the airport and the public."

Whitcomb said the new zoning ordinance draft will soon be submitted to the Minnesota Department of Trans-portation (MnDOT) Aviation Division. Once the zoning ordinance is approved by MnDOT, a series of public hearings will be scheduled for the new zoning ordinance.
