PAHS grad co-authors paper

Jessica Lourey, a 1988 PAHS grad, will present her co-authored paper, "The Dea(r)th of Student Responsibility," at the 2005 annual convention of the Conference on College Composition andCommunication.

The conference is for college-level instructors of writing and related subjects within the National Council of Teachers of English. It will be held in San Francisco from March 16-19. Lourey's paper, co-authored with Holly Hassel, deals with student apathy at the college level - if it exists, what causes it, and how to overcome it. It has been published by College Teaching.

More than 3,000 teachers of college writing courses are expected to attend the conference, which will have over 450 workshops and sessions.

The Conference on College Composition and Communication has over 8,000 individual members, and the National Council of Teachers of English has 60,000 members worldwide.

Lourey, who lives in Alexandria, is currently working on her third mystery novel, "Knee High by the Fourth of July." In addition to teaching, she enjoys raising her kids, reading, and gardening.
