By Michael Jacobson

The Paynesville chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) returned from regional competition with a chapter trophy last week and advanced all eight of its regional competitors to state.

The FCCLA students advanced to state in the following STAR events: Frank (Teen Dating Violence); Hawkinson (Shaken Baby Syndrome); Keller and Soine (Teen Eating Habits); Leyendecker (Child Discipline); Leyendecker, Mackedanz, and Schwartz (Influence of Friends); Leyendecker and Schwarts (Teen Pregnancy); and Schlick (Positive Thinking).

Frank has advanced to state competition for the second straight year; all the others will be first-time state competitors.

Regional competition was held on Monday, Feb. 6, in Barrett. The Paynesville participants earned a chapter trophy by having at least three entries advance to state (to be held April 21-23 at the Sheraton in Bloomington) and, for the first time, had all of their regional entries advance to state, said advisor Karen Odberg.

Parents Janelle Leyendecker and Nanette Frank also attended regional competition with the FCCLA students and served as judges.
