Speech team wins Sauk Rapids meet

The Paynesville Area High School speech team took first place at the Sauk Rapids Invitational speech meet on Saturday, Feb. 10.

There were 22 schools represented. Paynesville had 93 points and second place Foley had 84 points. "The kids have been working hard," said coach Joan Nevitt.

Team members and their competition categories are: juniors Melissa Bachman, humorous, Laurie Barten, poetry. They are also the team captains.

Sophomores: Sara Boeck, Melissa Andrie, and Hannah Felling, discussion.

Freshmen: Sami Tierney and Alisa Schmidt, creative expression; Maureen Flanders and Peter Schreifels, humorous; Jean Terres, drama; and Callie Frieler, story telling.

Annandale meet
At the Annandale meet on Thursday, Feb. 1, four members of the team received "A" ratings. They were Sami Tierney, Melissa Andrie, Maureen Flanders, and Peter Schreifels.

St. Cloud Tech meet
Sara Boeck brought home a first place medal on Saturday, Feb. 3, from the St. Cloud Tech High School meet.

Sami Tierney brought home a second place medal in creative expression and Alisa Schmidt earned fourth place in creative expression.

Receiving honorable mention were: Peter Schreifels, Callie Frieler, and Laurie Barten.

The team has a meet this week at St. Michael-Albertville and next week in Willmar.
