Students were told to stay in their classrooms Thursday morning at the Paynesville Area High School and Middle School.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Department and Paynesville Police Department held a random search of the buildings. Trained dogs from the St. Cloud Correctional Institute walked up and down the halls sniffing lockers for any sign of drugs.

The search took the two dogs about a half hour to complete. Besides the high school and middle school, the dogs also searched the vocational center.

“I was pleased the dogs didn’t find anything in the buildings,” John Janotta, high school principal, said. “Searches are held randomly, sending out the message that we won’t tolerate drugs in the school.”
