Gary Heineman, Paynesville Area Elementary School Principal, was named a 1997 Regional Distinguished Service Award recipient by the Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association.

Heineman has been principal in the Paynesville school since 1972. He is a strong advocate for children, initiating many opportunities for the academic and social growth of students in Paynesville. He believes in parental involvement in education, and encourages participation in many areas.

Heineman is currently serving a two-year term as MESPA treasurer and is a member of the MESPA board of directors. He has served on the board four years. Heineman is also a former president, vice-president, and secretary of the central division.

Heineman says the MESPA sponsors new principal conferences; a mentor program for new principals, and sponsors workshops each summer for aspiring principals. The MESPA also has developed business related partnerships with Jostens, LifeTouch and Camera Arts and is sponsoring the School of Excellence program in which the Paynesville Area Elementary School is taking part.
