Students advance to state in BPA

Nine students from Paynesville Area High School have advanced to state in Business Professionals of America (BPA) by taking first or second at regional competition.

Fifteen students in Business Professionals of America at Paynesville Area High School recently placed in regional competition, with nine advancing to state competition in March. Placewinners are: (sitting) Jenn Terres, Callie Frieler, and Mandy Mayer; (kneeling) Amanda Halvorson, Rachel Hanson, Angie Wunsch, and Kelly Schultz; (standing) Rachel Sogge, Hannah Felling, Mindy Meagher, Trisha Wendlandt, and Kayla Rooney. Not pictured are Anita Anderson, Melissa Andrie, and Maureen Flanders.

Advancing to state were senior Anita Anderson, senior Hannah Felling, junior Maureen Flanders, junior Callie Frieler, junior Rachel Hanson, senior Mindy Meagher, senior Kelly Schultz, senior Rachel Sogge, and junior Angie Wunsch, Regional BPA was held on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Flanders, Frieler, Hanson, and Wunsch took first place in global marketing team and also took third place in small business management team.

Felling, Meagher, and Sogge took first place in presentation management team.

Anderson and Schultz advanced to state by taking second in small business management team.

Other local BPA students who placed in regional competition were: ninth grader Amanda Halvorson, third place in extemporaneous speaking; juniors Melissa Andrie, Kayla Rooney, Jennifer Terres, and Trisha Wendlandt, fourth place in website development team; Halvorson and ninth grader Amanda Skalicky, fourth place in presentation management team; and senior Mandy Mayer, sixth place in basic office procedures.

The state competition will be held in Minneapolis from March 13-15. National BPA competition will be held in Dallas in early May.
