Middle school to hold spelling bee

By Michael Jacobson

Spelling Bee contestants Paynesville Area Middle School will crown its spelling champion this afternoon at its annual spelling bee. (Last year, due to extenuating circumstances, a spelling bee was not held.)

The spelling bee - held in the middle school gym - will start on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 1:45 p.m. It could last until 3 p.m., depending on the skill of the contestants.

Pictured, at left, are the spelling bee finalists, chosen competitively by each grade at PAMS. They are: (first row) sixth grader Matthew Everson, sixth grade alternate Brian Schaefer, sixth grader Sam Bungum, sixth grader Aaron Zenner, and seventh grader Alex VanEck; (second row) seventh grader Heather Rondeau, seventh grader Kaitlin Burlingame, seventh grade alternate Alicia Leyendecker, seventh grade alternate Karla Leitzman, and seventh grader Brianna Fischbach; (third row) eighth grader Christine Spanier, eighth grader Katrina Daby, and eighth grade alternate Leah Felling; (back row) eighth grader Brandon Soine, eighth grade alternate Cory Spanier, and eighth grader Colby Peterson.
