Administrator to leave city post in March

By Michael Jacobson

City administrator Steve Helget submitted his resignation to the city council last week, effective March 1, 2006. Helget informed the city council that he will be taking a new position as the city administrator for the city of Montgomery.

Montgomery is a city with a population around 3,000 that is located about an hour's drive south of the Twin Cities. It is just south of New Prague but in Le Sueur County.

Helget, a native of Sleepy Eye, started working for the city of Paynesville as its administrator in January 2002. He previously served as city administrator in Eagle Lake (for three years) and Tyler (for four years).

The city council accepted Helget's resignation with regret at a special meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Helget told the council that he wished to express appreciation to the city, to the council, to the city staff, and to all the committees. "It's been a pleasure," he said.

The city's personnel committee was expected to meet last week and start outlining a hiring process for a new city administrator.
