Press gets second-place award

By Michael Jacobson

Press editor Michael Jacobson took second place for best sports feature story among weekly newspapers with circulations between 2,501 and 5,000 in the 2001-02 Better Newspaper Contest, sponsored by the Minnesota Newspaper Association.

Jacobson's feature story about Jen Hess, published in November 2001, took second place among 33 entries in the category.

'Good story, good lead,' wrote the judges, who commented that they wished they could have awarded five places in the category. 'A stranger would be able to know what this girl is all about by reading this story.'

The contest had over 3,800 entries from Minnesota newspapers with fewer than 300 winners.
