More than 40 Cub Scouts in Pack 34 put their car building skills to the test in the annual Pinewood Derby on Jan. 27 in the Paynesville Area Elementary School cafeteria.

The cars were weighed in prior to the race. The cars could not weigh more than seven ounces.

Winning each heat were: heat one, Kris Person, Jordan Schultz, Mitchell Mackedanz; heat two, Aaron Bachman, Michael Kern, Brad Hemmesch, Jimmy Jensen; heat three, Troy Gerding and Derick Mattson.

The winners of each heat then raced their cars for the right to advance in competition in St. Cloud during the Scout Expo in March. Overall winners were: first place, Kris Person; second, Aaron Bachman, and third, Troy Gerding. Receiving the “Best Car” design was Colby Peterson.
