Charity Fund Drive exceeds its goal

By Michael Jacobson

The Paynesville Area Charity Fund Drive has reached the goal for its 2001 drive, but area residents are urged to submit any remaining donations before Friday, Feb. 15.

The Charity Fund Drive starts in October and ends in December, but the board of directors will meet at the end of February, thus making the final mid-February deadline.

The funds will be distributed to the charities in March. This year, the board of directors set a goal of $40,000, which has been surpassed, with $40,600 collected so far.

Great thanks go to everyone who contributed to the drive, said Don Torbenson, a fund drive board member. Last year, the fund drive raised $39,000 for charity, also exceeding its goal.

Local organizations listed in the Paynesville Area Charity Fund Drive are: the Boy Scouts of Paynesville Area; Paynesville Community Service Center; Consortium for the Creative Arts; Crow River Trail Guards; Friends of the Paynesville Public Library; the Girl Scouts of Paynesville Area; Paynesville Area Center;

Paynesville Area Dollars for Scholars; Paynesville Area Health Care System Auxiliary; Paynesville Area Special Olympics; the Paynesville Branch of Rice Hospice; Paynesville Historical Society; Paynesville Area High School Marching Band; Paynesville Youth Athletic Association; and the R.O.S.E. Center.

Donations can be designated to specific charities, including state and national organizations, too.
