Middle school speech team hosts meet

Twelve schools competed at the meet: Albany, Annandale, BBE, Holdingford, Litchfield, Melrose, Minnewaska, Paynesville, South Junior High in St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, Willmar, and Willmar Community Christian.

Sixth grader Jasmine Kalkbrenner and seventh grader Melanie Koerner perform "Little Miss Perfect," a drama about eating disorders at the home middle school speech meet on Thursday. Kalkbrenner and Koerner earned a ribbon for the duet.

Twenty-seven PAMS students are on the team this year. Ten pairs compete in duets, one in poetry, and six in humorous prose.

Duets that won ribbons last week were: sixth graders Ariel Jones and Karla Leitzman for "Ask Big Sister," sixth grader Jasmine Kalkbrenner and seventh grader Melanie Koerner for "Little Miss Perfect," sixth graders Hana Arneson and Ralph Daby for "Breakfast in Bed," seventh graders Katrina Daby and Bryna Hendrickson for "Repeat that Please," sixth graders Anne Nihart and Rashanda Sampson for "Bubbles Goes to School," sixth grader Tessa Knisley and seventh grader Kim Kulzer for "The Makeover," and sixth graders Heather Rondeau and Callie Bennett for "Who's on First?"

Individuals who earned ribbons last week were sixth grader Kelsey Reinke with "Casey at the Bat," seventh grader Zach Schwandt with "How to Dress and Groom the Neurotic Dog," and eighth grader Dugan Flanders with "Can't I Ma?".

The Paynesville team had previously competed at a meet in Annandale. The team has seven more meets scheduled including at Little Falls, Holdingford, Melrose, Benson, and BBE.
