Students of the Month chosen for January at PAMS

By Michael Jacobson

January 2002 Students of the Month Students of the Month were announced last week for January at Paynesville Area Middle School. Winners were: Sheena Hoekstra (left), eighth grade; Kayla Rohe (center), seventh grade; and Curt Nietfeld (right), sixth grade.

Students are chosen for their behavior and effort in class and their relations with their classmates and teachers.

Nietfeld, the son of Brian and Judy Nietfeld, was happy to receive the award and thought he earned it by being nice to people. He likes to play football and baseball and to go snowmobiling.

Curt has a pleasant personality, works hard, and is a well-liked, responsible, and good student, according to his teachers.

Rohe, the daughter of Kenny and Lori Rohe, isn't sure why she was chosen but was happy. "I was surprised!" she said. She plays volleyball and basketball on the seventh grade teams.

Her teachers say she is a cooperative and attentive, hard-working student who strives for high-quality work. She is mature, well-mannered, very polite, and able to work independently, they added.

Hoekstra, the daughter of Jerry and Rita Hoekstra, thought it was awesome to be chosen as the Student of the Month. She thought her being on the "A" honor roll last quarter helped her achieve the award. Sheena runs on the cross country and track teams and competes in speech.

Her teachers say Sheena is conscientious, organized, and responsible. She is a hard worker with good work habits, they added.
